DIY Favorite Teacher Tote Bag - Teacher Appreciation Gift

Custom ‘favorite teacher’ bag + personalized patches and pins + favorite flowers and treats = winning teacher appreciation week! I’ve been dreaming up these tote bags for a while now, and am SO excited I finally got to put them together! These are the perfect thoughtful (AND useful) gift for those favorite teachers :).

Start off with good quality tote bags. I have used THESE for several projects and they feel well made and last!

I used heat transfer vinyl (HTV) in a matte black to add ‘favorite teacher’ in a cute script font (designed and cut with my silhouette). You could also do their name (like ‘Miss Anderson’) in a similar style and it would be so adorable.

Next is the fun part…customizing with pins and/or patches! We had so much fun picking out designs that represented each teacher. It helps if you have their responses to a teacher survey like the one I shared HERE. A note about iron on patches…I ordered all iron on patches, and I just could not get them to stay very well no matter what I tried. I ended up stitching them around the border to keep them in place and it worked way better. Just turn your sewing machine to a very low speed to adjust around all the shapes. If you are not looking to sew…stick with the pins.

I found patches and pins in several places. Amazon and Etsy both have some good options. I even found the perfect pin for one teacher at a local bookshop.

Filling these bags can be just as fun as decorating them…add the teacher’s favorite flowers, special treats, drinks, or even throw in some gift cards to their favorite lunch spot.

Check out the project instagram reel HERE. All my projects get shared on instagram first :)…though I am trying to get better about adding them to my blog. If you make this project, I would LOVE to see it!!

And stay tuned for a huge post coming up…a giant compilation of my teacher appreciation gift ideas from over the last 8 years and 13 teachers!
